Betta "plays dead" when sleeping?

Every night my betta sleeps like this. Every single night, I question whether he's dead, and every single morning, he greets me with his cute face. I wonder if anyone else's betta "plays dead" when they sleep? I wasn't sure this was normal, but he's been doing it for a while. Also, he's partially blind and has what appears to be a tumor on his side (that white bump - hasn't grown or changed for months, same color as his scales), so that MAY have something to do with how he looks... and I absolutely promise he isn't dead!

It just scares me D: lol, my other one doesn't do it! I guess Jippers is just weird, he does this right at the front of the aquarium (hence the really clear picture)...

He was normal when I got him, but over time, despite perfect aquarium conditions, he developed these problems. I am pretty sure they're genetic (he's from Petsmart, who knows where he came from or how long he was there?). I love him to death though, he's so funny <3

I've had some that gave me a scare. Do you have any floating plants plastic or real or a betta leaf stuck to the side of the tank? Many bettas will prefer to rest at the top if you have stuff at the top of the tank to lean on.

I'm 99.99% sure they sleep like that.

My oldest, Iggy, ALWAYS looks like that. He is so lazy, he usually sleeps all day lol. But when he is sleeping, he is usually on one of his betta leaf hammocks and he just sits and stares. He does scare me sometimes so I have to touch him to make sure he is okay, and even then sometimes he doesn't move, lol, but then he swims down, happy as ever and then tells me its time to eat. hahaha got to love these crazy fish!!

Oh, he has PLENTY of soft places to sleep, haha!! He has a 10 gallon all to himself, with live java fern and tons of silk (not plastic, no wires, all soft)! I think he is maybe just weird.

Thank you <3 he is very comfortable haha, he does rest a lot during the day also though, so it may just be that he's old and too lazy to swim up to a leaf at night...
