Let the heater start up overnight. Water temperature is currently at 79F. Perfect, not going to mess with the adjustment at all. I'll monitor the temp for the next couple of hours to make sure it's stable.

pH level is 6.8 or 6.7 according to the pH test kit I borrowed.

Also bear in mind that you can take your water to any fish store and get it tested for free, if you want to give your pocketbook a break before purchasing a liquid test kit.

Fish is here!

Planted the java fern (plus a baby java fern)

Pictures (plus the grand unveiling of his name) after he's floated in the tank in his bag for a full hour.

Presenting Bloodgore, Lord of all Fish!

Here he is with the new plant (a java fern)

Finally a full tank shot.

We just gave him three freeze dried blood worms. It took him quite a while to figure out that they were floating on top of the tank, but as soon as he did he gobbled them right up!

We're going to feed him betta pellets in the morning, which will be his regular feeding time. One question is it better to feed him a little twice a day or bit more once a day? We will fast him on Saturdays.

And he just figured out he can swim inside the skull, and then he surprised us by swimming out one of the eyes (we thought he was too big to do that)

Going to go post the rest of the photos in the photos section.

Eeek! What a cute little guy!!! Congratulations!

I feed my fish once a day since I am at work all day and I have a lot of fish but you could also distribute feedings throughout the day (ie 3 pellets in the morning, 3 at night) so that you're not stuffing him up too much.

Oh and just a note, I would either leave that java fern free-floating or buy a piece of driftwood and tie it to the wood with a piece of thread... the roots on java ferns tend to rot if they are buried.
