I got my best friend addicted!

My best friends taking Phantom, my black DT and she's planning on buying a 5G. I told her to make an account on here and ask questions because I don't know much about filters and what you can put in with bettas. She's either going to divide the tank and put a female on the other side or get something else. I don't think she's had a fish before, at least not one for long. I'm going to be going to Petsmart or Petco with her to buy the essentials. I've seen posts about ghost shrimp. If she got a 5G could she have a ghost shrimp or what else could she have? I have no clue so any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Also, if she wants to grow real plants, can she in a 5G? We won't be getting any wednesday because I have no idea which ones are the right ones. She'll have to do her research and ask some questions on here. Sorry that I'm jumping categories.lol

You should be able to have a few ghost shrimp. Other people will have to tell you how many she can have though. That's exciting that we have another betta addict. lol

You can have up to 5 shrimp, but you must must must wait 'til the tank is well established. Shrimp are VERY sensitive to water parameters.

Live plants will help a lot with cycling the tank. I recommend HornWort, and Java moss.

Oh, she COULD have 2 african dwarf frogs and 2-3 shrimp. Shrimp have barely ANY bioload, so you can have lots!

Yeah I showed her a picture of an ADF and her moms a teacher and has a tank full of them in her classroom. She's thinking about getting one. Do they need to have another frog with them or are they happy alone because I think she either wants one ADF or one shrimp.

Two is much much better then one. They are very social and love other frogs to keep each other company. I'd say get two.

Ok, I'll tell her! I can't wait to go shopping with her Wednesday. We're just going to get the essentials and if she wants to add anything in with Phantom, I'll make sure she researches frogs and shrimp before she gets them.

I agree with doggyhog. Two frogs would be better than one. Have fun shopping on wednesday! :)
