as far as the tube plants go:
sword plants in the tube, the leaves will eventually die off , the leaves get brown spots then go clear, THEN they should go grow back, dont htrow it away unless you dont get ANY leaves with in a month.
The problem with the swords in the tubes is because their not grown in water. so when they enter a tank they have to adjust being submerged.
but all plants must adjust to a new tanks water parameters. so dont throw out plants too soon thinking their dead.
also, MOST of the tube plants are bog plants, meaning the leaves usually grow in the air with the roots submerged. Before i knew better, i bought several tube plants, even one of the ferns. its STILL alive in my tank after 6 months, which is rare. but im sure itll eventually die
research before you buy any plants, itll save money and aggravation in the long run.
some stores even sell plants from their tanks that arent true aquatics, such as the purple waffle......gorgeous plant, but not aquatic.
also, if you have snails, check and see if their species will eat your plants.
