I found a really good electric feeder at Petsmart for about $15. It clips to the side of the bowl, you fill it with food and set it for the amount you want to feed and how many times per day (1 or 2). It runs on 2 "AA" batteries. I used it when we went to Florida for a week this last summer and it worked great. A lot better than those pyramids. As for cleaning, I just did a good cleaning the day before I left and the day I got back. My fishy did great. Hope this helps.

Also, fish can go a week without eating. I had someone come in every other day to feed mine and it worked out fine.

How big is your tank? A 2.5g should be alright for a week but anything below that will not survive a week between cleanings too well.
