Unhappy Wont eat

I got my first betta since about 2 years ago a couple days ago and he has yet to eat anything. He live in a 2.5 gallon (I know its small, but its the best we have. He was a walmart rescue) with a heater and small filter. He has a hidey spot and we keep him in a darker room. We have betta pellets and have also tryed flakes and bloodwroms. Any suggestions?

Is he acting unusual aside from not eating?

Btw, give him some light sometimes...it's a good thing for both you and him. :)

No. He swims around fine, likes to hide in his "spot" but other then that acts fine

I wouldn't worry yet. He might be trying to de-stress and get used to his new home. Keep him in a quiet area and hopefully he'll come around in a few days.

BTW - 2.5 gallons is perfect for one betta with filter and heater. I have 4 of them myself :)

He's probably still getting used to his new surroundings. It's pretty normal for a new betta to not eat for a few days.

We were thinking about getting him a tank mate (ADF). how long should we wait as to stress him out as little as possible?

You might want to think about getting ADF's for a while.

In a tank that small you're going to have ammonia build up pretty quickly. I had two of them in my 5 gallon but my betta ate all of their food. The only other betta tanks i had at the time were the 2.5 gals so i put the ADFs in one of those with my HM that did not eat their pellets but I couldn't stay on top of the ammonia without changing the water every 3 days or so...

So right as things were looking up, he died. I went to feed him this morning, as last night he had started to eat normally, and he was dead. We are looking at some 10 gallon tanks and are going in to get our water tested.
