Stressful water changes

It is really hard to get Axel out of his tank so I can clean it. I try to scoop him u with a cup but he manages to wiggle away. He is causing himself so much stress, that right now he is just hanging out at the bottom of the tank (I put aquarium salt in, by the way).
How can I get him to calm down about water changes? I know this might be a stupid question, but I worry about him being stressed.

I do 100% water changes once a week (everyday to every other day I do 50% water changes) for my .5g. I'm getting the new tank this weekend and it will be even harder to get him out then.

Try lowering the water level before trying to catch him. I've done it before and it seems to make it a little easier.

bigger net would catch him faster and with less stress since he wouldn't feel touched and chased so much
or are there too many decorations in the way?

I have a big net and I take everything out, plants etc before I net them so I get a one shot deal. Also, a .5G should be cleaned two to three times a week 100%. Ammonia builds up very fast in a.5G.

yes moving him to something larger will generally cut down a lot of the general stress since he'll get more exercise and be able to behave more naturally
