Baccus has been fighting something - worse now

No no no!!! My first and most magnificent betta has been fighting something which I've been treating for months now. He's been great the past two weeks maybe... But I just got home and he's sitting on a plant at the top of the tank and he's bloated and lethargic.

He's in a 5 gallon. Temp is 80F, I just retested the water and everything is perfect. 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, 10 nitrates, ph 7.8 I do weekly water changes of approx. 40%

My thoughts:

Salt bath and treatment with Furan II (treats gram positive and gram negative bacterial issues). I'm going to lower the water in the tank so he has an easier time staying at the surface.

or

Treat with another sulphur based med. bc it doesn't look fungal.

Or should I get an antibiotic at this point?? That's about the only thing I haven't done bc I've heard that these are last resort meds.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. I really really really really don't want to lose this guy.

Thanks all!

It may be a bacterial infection. Tetracycline was recommended to me for bacterial infections.

Thanks drama,

Did you actually use it and was it a good outcome? I don't have Tetracycline on hand but would be able to get it tomorrow morning. I might just throw the Furan in tonight and hope for the best.

If only they could talk!

**** sigh****

No I haven't ever had to use it. I bought it after Oscar died, thinking if another one gets sick like Oscar then I'd have it on hand. It was recommended to me for bacterial fin rot. I was told that most fin rot was bacterial and not fungal. Yours doesn't have fin rot though, right?

No. There are no obvious signs of fungus, rot etc...

He's in the same spot this morning - resting on a leaf at the top of the tank. He's not breathing rapidly or showing any signs of struggling. He just looks bloated and lethargic. Scales are not pineconing.

Back to Google.

Thanks

I hope that's all it is but I have some doubt now. I did give him some daphnia and he was interested and ate some. Now he's at the bottom of the tank breathing fairly heavily.

It's sad to see him like this. My poor lil guy.

It must be something internal.
