Update on Baccus:

Well he's still alive. I have him in a hospital tank with a leafy plant and about 6" of water so he doesn't struggle to get to the surface. He's still bloated around the abdomen and he's pretty lethargic but moving around once in a while. He wouldn't eat the pieces of pea or any daphnia in the last 3 days so I soaked some small Hikari pellets in garlic juice this morning and put two right in front of his face. He had no interest at the moment but now I don't see them in the tank. Hmmmmmm......

I did take him to the fish store about a month ago and they didn't see anything obvious either except for his size (which is formidable). They gave me one of the sulphur meds. and that obviously wasn't successful.

Thanks for your kind words. It's a pretty helpless feeling when you try everything you can think of and nothing works :(

I really can't bc he's pretty much either hiding behind the heater or in his plant. There isn't much to see except he's bloated and breathing rapidly.

This is the 7th day and he's still hanging in there. Since I've put him in the hospital tank with a bare bottom, i'm able to see that he's def. not pooing.

I just did some research about Epsom salts which might relieve some of his swelling so i'm going to stop on the way home to pick some up. Like I said earlier, I just want to keep him as comfortable as possible. I'm not too optimistic about recovery but I'm not accepting defeat either.

I have also heard that epsom salts can help the bloating.

Too late - he's gone. I'll miss him terribly.
