The most I can afford right now is a 10 gallon is that good or should I save up more?

A 10G is great! The smallest a betta should be in is a 2 or 2.5G. Just make sure that it's heavily planted and lots of hiding places! Good luck! :)

When I go to pet stores I have a color in mind and than I come home with the total opposite!lol All of the ones I pick up, 'speak' to me and they look at me like 'take me home, take me home!'

That's what I do. I will point at them and if they come to my finger and look at me, I'll get them. But then again, theres been those ones I've bought just because they look so sad in their little cups.

Me too, I have 4 bettas, all in a divided 10g tank. The last 3 were actually out of impulse buys, but hey, they looked so sad in those cups....

yeah when i shop for a betta i first look for the healthiest fish- i look at color quality, clear eyes, healthy gills, smooth sides, intact fins- and the way he/she is behaving- i never get one that's spazzing out a lot in the cup- they should be able to calm down enough to make eye contact. then i choose the fish i want from the ones that look healthiest.
