Looking to get some friendlies for the tank

Hey all, I have a 10 gallon- as seen here (however, now it has some more plants, and I plan on getting even more plants!)
and I would like to put some other fish in.

The only thing in there now is:
1 CT Betta
1 Mystery Snail
4 Ghost Shrimp

I like the neon tetras, but I feel like they may not have enough room - especially since I'd get 5 or so so they can shoal.

So I'm looking for some other fish, preferably slower moving.

Any suggestions?

Cories? They are really good cleaners!

Neons will probably be eaten...

Cories are good, but do best in groups of 4 or more.

What about some Otocinclus catfish?

I already tried Otos... my tank didn't have enough algae, and they refused to eat the algae waffer.

What about harlequin rasboras? I read that there very very peaceful.

I don't know about that. My betta is pretty timid. It can't hurt to try though, I suppose.

when I looked it up it looked like their max temp range was 78º - which is right where my tank is.

Well, I bought 2 Zebra Danios.

However... I'm now down to one. I didn't even get the other guy into the tank.
I don't own a fish net, so when I usually get new tank residents I cut the bag and drain water into the sink (perhaps you can see where this is going).

Anyway, one of the Danios, managed so swum out of the small hole I cut... and into the drain :-\

I actually just returned the 2nd Danio. To skittish for my tank.

I think I will end up buying 2 dwarf frogs later down the road.
