Unhappy I got a new betta but he is really skiddish

i just got a new veil tail male betta a few days ago and put him in a temporary half gallon tank. he doesnt have a hiding spot yet but he doesnt eat or move around and when i come near his bowl he starts daring around the bowl and freaking out. Whats wrong with him?

I think he's just feeling insecure right now. If you could get him a plant or something to hide in, it would help.

if you have one you could even add a small tupperware bowl (I have tiny ones that make great caves) or a small tumbler cup.. they're both good temporary caves.

Maybe an old medicine bottle (like a large bottle of asprin or something) that has been thoroughly washed and disinfected could work... or a plastic cup from like McDonald's that you can cut..
