My betta's caught the black plague!

Two weeks ago I lost one of my females... She never seemed very healthy to begin with and I found her half eaten a few days later at the bottom of my tank.

Gave the tank a 75% water change

Few days ago I noticed 2/5 of my females to be very bloated and hardly swimming.

I gave them daphnia and hoped it would get better.

One of my normal looking fish passed. She was floating in the top corner of my tank.

2/4 of my betta's are still extremely bloated.

Today I came home, my smallest female who looked fine last night, was stuck to the filter tube. Im not sure if this is what killed her or not.

2/3 of my bettas are very bloated, and hardly swimming.

The healthy betta I will be removing and putting into another 2 gallon tank until I isolate this issue.

Oh no... I'm so sorry about your fishy losses. I just lost one to similar symptoms. I have to assume he was bloated from constipation but I would doubt that you could have that many constipated fish at the same time.

Did you test the water for ammonai, nitrites, nitrates?

Only other thoughts would be some kind of internal parasites.

Hope you figure it out before you lost some more.

Im treating for internal parasites and bacteria now.

The answer is explaned from the below picture... Im jsut not sure why it happened to multiple fish at the same time.

It looks like dropsy to me because of the raised scales. I lost one of my males to dropsy a week ago. :(

Yes, it is.

But what could have caused it. 2 females at once have it right now.

All my females were bought from different stores at different times.

Just incase, like I said, Im treating for bacteria in my tank. Im not sure what coudl have triggered it, but I hate seeing my old girl (white one) look like shes suffering.

It's very contageous. It's USUALLY caused by feeding fish live foods (according to bettatalk) but I assume you haven't been feeding live food. It might be something they caught at the petstore.

OK, isolated both sick betta's in a 2.5G tank. They are just floating around, I dont expect them to make it very long.

Last betta look OK, as do the other fish in the tank.
