My daughter's betta died today...

My daughter went to disneyland this weekend with her dad. So I'm taking care of her fish while she's away. We've only had this fish since xmas and he was always near the bottom of the bowl, hardly ate, didn't seem typical. The only time I ever saw him perk up was a few day ago when I cleaned his bowl. But that didn't last long.
He also seemed like he never ate the little pellets of food. We also used the water purifier for bettas whenever we changed his water. I'm wondering if he was too cold. How warm of water do they need. My friend said that they did well in colder water, but now I'm thinking thats not correct.
I plan on getting a new betta tomorrow before she gets home from her trip.
I'm new to this whole betta thing. My daughter loved her betta and I want us to know how take better care of the new one. Tips?

I'm sorry about your loss. Bettas are warm water fish that should be in 76-82 degrees F. They need 2-2.5Gs of water or more with a filter that is optional and a heater to keep the water warm. If you chose not to have a filter, you have to clean your tank more often. I would suggest getting Prime or Aqua for water conditioners. They should also be fed 3-4 pellets a day (some feed 3 pellets twice a day). I hope this helps!

Betta's need their tanks to be at least 78degrees Fahrenheit (which is 25.5 degrees Celsius) I keep mine at 27 degrees C.

They need a tank of at least 2 gallons as well to be able to heat it. Put in some plants, and places to hide and you are on your way to a very happy betta. Also, when in new surroundings bettas often go off eating, however they can also be very picky with their food. Some won't eat flakes (mine do), others will only eat small pellets.

^ this has general care info, and I'm sure some other members will have better information!

Good luck

Hello and welcome to the forum. I'm so sorry about your daughter's betta! First of all, they need to be in a 2.5 gallon tank or larger. Bettas are tropical fish and need a heater.

We got a new Betta today and from the start he is so much more active than the other one! I'm hoping that things go much better! Thanks for the advice!

Not a problem :) Sometimes they just aren't in the best condition and we just can't save them. One of mine was like that when I got him, and sadly he died the next day :(

Good Luck!!
