filter advice for betta

Ok so im currently cyling a 5g tank, and getting a betta is one of the options im considering, now its only a small tank and i have an interpet pf1 filter which even on the low setting is throwing a pretty strong current around the tank, so how can i remedy this without getting a new filter or turning it off completely? ive read many people covering parts of filters with sponges and various other things but im not quite sure what to do, and also dont want to damage my filter?

I find tying a sponge or nylon stocking around the intake helps. Yet others squish a water bottle under the outflow or secure a sponge onto it. You could also put a plant directly in front of the outflow to baffle the water flow.

There are many ways of altering your filter outflow without causing any permanent alterations... the only limitations are
a) your imagination
b) whether it's aquarium safe.
