So I'm looking at buying a 2.5 g mini bow but I never see them in teal or black at my pet store. If I wanted to spray paint one, will that harm the fish at all? Obviously the fish would not be in the tank and I would wait several hours for it to dry.

Only paint the outside of the bowl and you will be fine.

For that trouble you could probably order one that doesn't stink like paint fumes off petco.com or drsfostersmith or petsmart. The cost of shipping (If any) will be the same as spray paint. You could also ask the store to bring one in from a different location for you.

the only store I've seen that carries them here sells them for $50

I've spray painted my tanks, no big deal.

The thing with spray paint is that it takes more than several hours to dry. That is dry to the touch, but to fully fry it takes a couple days. More depending on the # of layers.
