I'm a new Betta fish owner and while I love my fishes (The Duke and Duchess of Cinna, don't ask, my boyfriend and I are strange lol) I've got a problem. I received my first Betta for Christmas, a beautiful boy fish I named Marcus. In the process of buying equipment for him my boyfriend and I fell in love with a girl fish (just named The Duchess) and ended up buying her as well. My boyfriend wanted to breed them but reading through this forum I know right now we don't have the time or the money to go through with that. Does that mean we have to keep the fish separate forever? Can they be placed together anyway and is there a way to prevent them from breeding? Should they not even be able to see each other or....I don't know...what are our options?
oh yes, breeding bettas takes LOTSSSS of time and research, and it can get quite expensive. they should never be together in a tank under any circumstances, unless the tank is divided. a lot of people have divided tanks here, so if you are to plan on doing that, you can get all the help you need here what size are the tanks they're in now? oh and i love their names by the way!
Hello and welcome to the forum. I agree with sunkissedinca. If you put them in a divided tank, make sure that the dividers are secure or they will find a way to get to each other.
First of all, welcome to the forum!! And I commend you for coming on here and asking for advice before just throwing a male and female together. Keeping a male and female together when you have no intention of breeding usually ends up being deadly for one of both of the fish involved. If you setup a divided tank make sure that the dividers are secure because they will try hard to get to eachother. Personally I feel that keep a male and a female next to eachother with no intention of breeding, can be stressful on the fish cause they will be constantly flaring and displaying for eachother.
