My betta has slits in his tail...Please Help!

My VT betta has a few slits in his tail, and a little hole in his dorsal fin. I dont know how he did it. I checked in on him a couple hours ago and he was perfect, nothing wrong, and I just checked up on him and he had his slits and a hole.

....I'll take a few pictures and post them in a few.

How can the slits be healed? and does anyone know how they could of happened?

You can tell by running a pantyhose over it. Use Melafix BettaFix or Aquarium Salt to help heal faster and prevent infections.

By using aquarium salt. I always put a little in after I do water changes because it gives them electrolytes and helps grow fins back. There's a salt bath thread somewhere on here. To find out if a plant will cut your fish's fins, you can run the plant over pantyhose. If it rips the pantyhose, it'll rip the fish's fins. Good luck! Don't worry, his fins will heal. :)

I would stay away from bettafix... I've read it can burn your bettas gills.

The best way to get it to heal is
#1 Clean water.. changing the water everyday so it is REALLY fresh is SO beneficial to healthy regrowth
#2 aquarium salt or indian almond leaf (only available off ebay). You can get aquarium salt virtually anywhere. It helps keep bacteria away and de-stresses your fish. I would add the salt for 10 days... then if its still not healed just go to frequent water changes.

A few AS tips:

-make sure it is FULLY dissloved.. undissolved crystals can burn your fish
- the salt doesn't evaporate so make sure you don't add any more salt unless you do a water change. Make sure the amount of salt you put in = the amount of salt you take out with your water change.
