Three White Dots

I watch my fish like a hawk. I just took note this morning that Mo has a few suspicious white dots on him. I'm afraid that they might be ich. He's still active and seems perfectly happy. Is there any risk involved with being proactive and putting some meds in there immediately? Should I wait until I'm sure that it's ich, or should I nip it in the bud?

Any suggestions for treatment? I have a bottle of Ich meds by API Aquarium Pharmaceuticals, is that a good brand/med to use?

The best risk-free route if you want to nip something in the bud is put aquarium salt in the water. This ways you are not overmedicating him or sucking oxygen out of the water and aquarium salt will help just about any disease under the sun, be it bacterial, parasitic or a wound.

Keep an eye on him and see if they develop into ich cysts or infcted spots but I doubt they will. Even if it is ich, the parasite has not fully buried itsself in the betta's skin obviously so some salt should nuke it.

Thanks for the advice. I put 1/4 tsp per gallon of aquarium salt in their tanks as a maintenance measure... should I up the dosage?

Yep, use the full dose, 1tsp/gal. Using less won't do anything... Is the tank heated? If it is less than 78* that will make it more difficult for him to fight off infections.
