possible parasite infection

my Crowntail Betta, Tough Guy, has a small mass hanging from his butt area. i do not know if it is poop or possibly a parasite. it looks like poop, but ive never seen it dangle attached to him before. i feed him pellets, 3-4 a day, every other day. i also realized that his fins look torn. it seems he might have fin rot.
he lives in a 10 gallon tank all by himself. with a filter. i just cleaned the tank last week, so i doubt that its caused by the tank. i am out of betta fix and i have aquarium salt. should i use aquarium salt? would it help?

A picture would definitely help. They don't poop from their butt, they poop from the stomach area (in the back of the two front fins.) I don't know what they're called though.lol

thanks. thats where it was. i just looked at him and it was gone. im gonna guess that it was poop.
