But... aren't real tank plants hard to maintain? ;w; I mean, I wouldn't mind getting rid of some of these crappy fake plants I have, but I'm freaked out enough just trying to make sure my betta and ADF's are healthy...
Real plants arent very hard to maintain.. the key is start off with easy plants.. don't jump in getting the most finicky plants you can. A great starter one is java moss.

They certainly don't have to be! I set up a 10 gallon Walsted style (or low-tech) aquarium over a month ago and its doing great.

Hi im malinda & new to the forum. I have 2 betta fish Gosimar & petrie . I was just reading this thread & it has me thinking about real plants. How hard would it be to have them in a 2 gallon bowl? When I do a cleaning would disturbing the plants kill them? im just wondering if anyone else has this situation. Thanks!

Some plants wouldn't do well at all, but bamboo and those plants that come in the little cylenders and say snail free on them are both great for bowls! so are different mosses and grasses! I had bamboo in a 1g baggie for about 8 weeks occasionally taking it out to clean it and it was fine. I use all of these in my bowls.... They work great, and you don't need to add anything special to the water if you want them!

Although it doesn't always help... >.< Yesterday when I was cleaning Lala's container, she tried to escape me by hiding in her plastic plant (that I'd already looked over) but because she kind of just dodged and lodged herself in the plant to escape, she ended up tearing her tiny dorsal fin! It's almost healed but it still makes me sad )':
