I've pretty much killed Castiel :(:(

Ugh. Decided to throw in an extra tank cleaning today, cos I'm bored, and there I was cleaning Castiel's side of the tank, and changing the water, when I noticed I couldn't see him.. I looked around, still couldn't see him, so I plugged the hose back in, turned it on slightly and Castiel came out of the other side. No idea how long he was in there for, he was still breathing when he came out on the pavers, and I managed to grab him and put him back in his tank. He originally just sank to the bottom, but now he is at the top breathing very heavily. Any tips on what I should do?

I think he must have been in the moss on the rock when I went past it. I feel horrible, and just want to give up right now, cos Sam is really sick as well, and I have no idea what is wrong, and I just don't know what to do. *cries*. Poor Castiel, I hope he pulls through.

Should I put him into an unheated hospital tank and lower the water level so he can rest on the bottom? Or leave him in his tank? He is in a divided tank, so I can't lower the water level in there...

(Apologies if this should be in emergencies, I thought I might get more advice in here)

Oh no!!!! I'd put him in a cup and float him in the tank so he can get to the surface easier!! I hope he's OK!!!!!!!!!

I'll have to see what we have in terms of cups here... Otherwise, I still have the bag he came in, so maybe I can use that? He's moved a bit, but it still looks like he is struggling to breathe.. hopefully thats just shock :S

EDIT:

I've put him in a shallow tupperwere container... he is swimming a little bit, so I guess that is a good sign.

Oh I hope he pulls through!

I always take my fish out of the tank before cleaning it up.

I'm pretty sure he'll pull through. My first betta, Flapjack, survived jumping out of his tank and falling on the floor....that happened 7 months ago and he's still with me today, thriving and curious as ever. Don't worry, mistakes like that happen, and I know you're guy will be okay.

Hope he pulls through! Bettas are pretty hardy, so he should be okay.

Just keep the water clean, turn the takn ligthsoff andminimise traffic around the tank so he can rest. Lou ot stuck in a flowerpot once (I had to pull pretty hardto get him out!) and made a nice recovery after a couple days of resting.
