Rescued Betta

Well I'm brand new to this forum, but I have been reading through tons of threads for about 2 months now. I rescued a little female betta from a friend of mine who almost killed her. When I got Flo and her tank-mate Norman, a snail, from my friend, the water was murky and smelled foul. She was a very pale white and barely moved. The water was icy cold to the touch. My friend had decided to leave them in her apartment with the heat off while she left for winter break for a month.

So I refused to let the fish freeze and starve and I went and picked her up. After an intensive cleaning I reintroduced her. Within 30 minutes she began to get color back into her fins and body. Because I had to leave for winter break (and home is 20 hours away) I left her with a local friend who has aquariums and gave her specific instructions.

So, now that I have them back I came to join the forum and introduce my new baby =) I know she needs a bigger home and I am working on it. Once I pay for my textbooks this week I am hoping to get a 3G tank from craigslist in the area. So for now, I apologize for her habitat, but it is what she came with. I do a 100% water change every night.

Aw, she's adorable! Looks a little like a female version of the boy in my avvie! ^_^ I'm glad that you've rescued her and are giving her a good home.

That is awesome!!! I love reading about "saving" fish from owners who could care less. When your friend sees the shape of her old fish, it may get her to want to get back in the hobby the right way. Good on ya, mate!

Eolith: She really does look like him! He is beautiful. He has that lovely iridescence like my little Flo! She is incredibly active too. She swims like crazy whenever I come back from class. And I have discovered she loves being photographed. She's a little ham lol

Betta Fish Bob: Thank you! I am hoping my friend will want to try again properly, but since I got Flo she hasn't even asked about her. Not even wondering if she is alive or not. So we shall see...

Doggyhog: Haha well thanks to you too! Once Flo was in her clean bowl I did a search on betta care and this forum was the first place I stumbled upon. I read the care and maintenance guides on here and sooooo many threads to make sure I was doing things right since I had only had large freshwater aquariums and large Koi ponds. This place really helped! I will definitely post pictures of her new home soon. I hope to have it no later than a month from now.

I also have my eye on getting another betta! I'm so bad hehe.

Thanks BettaxFishxCrazy!! I think she is precious. The snail is oddly cute, too lol. And they are sooooo addicting. I just got back from petco. I almost came home with 3 more! There is a gorgeous marble that Petco just got in that I may go back for tomorrow. The other 2 I am coonsidering is a red crowntail male and a reddish/purple and white halfmoon male. But my friend convinced me to go to petsmart tomorrow to see what they have first. So I have to wait a whole 24 hours before I know. XD
