boiling water before tanking it

through the years i've always been told to boil the water befor putting it in my tank is this good? also would rainwater be good to use for tankwater?,,and kinda off subject-ish what is the best aquarium salt brand to use?

I think I would only boil water if you're getting it from outside the city, like a well or something. Rainwater should be okay as long as you boil it...

I use API aquarium salt.

I dunno about rain water it depends where you live, the rain where I live is quite acidic. So much so that some local trout and salmon populations have declined from acidity of the rain changing the pHs in the rivers. You might want to check the pH of the rain water in your area before you use it for your fish just in case.
