Exclamation My tank with no heater.

I have a 1.5 gallon fish tank with lots of hiding spaces and a filter but no heater. Is a heater really needed? Does it affect my Betta?

Betta's need to be kept at a temp of around 80 so i would suggest a heater!

For a tank that small, a heater would probably be a bad idea unless you can find a 25watt. Angel, Betta's can live in 76 - 82 temp, so it's ok if they keep their room around 75 degrees their Betta will be fine, since the water will stay around that.

I agree with Tragedy. If you don't want to get a heater, I would put the tank in the hottest room in your house.

To answer your question, it can affect your betta if he isn't warm enough. A lot of the time they will become more colorful and active when they're in warmer water... and they're less susceptible to becoming ill and better able to recover if they do get sick.

I will see if I can get the money. But where do I get a heater for a small tank? I will see if my mom will know too.

Any pet store should have one. I know Petco and Petsmart definitely have them. There's a Hydor Mini heater for 1-5Gs? I think. Just make sure that it's compatible with your 1.5G (don't get a heater that should be used for 10Gs etc). I would also get a thermometer to keep tabs on the temperature.

I have a 50 Watt heater from Walmart. It was $12. I think it is lower quality, because it keeps my 1.5gallon tank at only around 78 degrees.
