Ah those tetra brand heaters are terrible!!
The TopFin heaters i like a lot. In my 5 gal I use a 50 watt and on the medium setting it keeps my tank at 82.

So if i were you i would buy the topfin 25watt and keep it on a lower setting. The heater turns off when it overheats and turns back on when it feels the water is too cold

I wish this topic had been up when I bought my heater. Bought the same one as you drama & auburn and it keeps my 2.5 gallon at 74-76. I want to return it.

For a 1 gal I would suggest a hydor mini 7.5 watt.. but you have to watch them because they have no shut off. I would be careful with using a 25 watt.. not to mention they would take up a lot of space in a 1.5.

When I went searching for a heater the smallest I could find for the hydor was 2-5 gallons, then it just went higher. Now maybe mine specifically didnt have smaller but that was the lowest. You can search online as well at petsmart.com or petco.com and look at heaters, compare that way. I did get the hydor heater for 2-5 gallons and it fluctuates between 78-81 degrees. So yes I would watch it.

Marineland has a 10 watt if you can find one. I've seen them at Marinedepot.com.

The 7.5w Hydor will keep a 1G tank about 10F hotter than ambient, which would be good if you air temp is about 70.

what if you have a light on over the tank and keep it in the hottest room in the house shouldnt that do the trick?
