Well, I see several flaws in the design. One is that between an air pump and the filter, there would be way too much current for a betta, and no room to get away from it. The other is that I think that it is just too small. I would not put a betta in anything smaller than a 2.5 gallon, and I think that 5 or more gallons is optimal (just my opinion). It also does not include a heater, which is a must for a betta. Also, the food included would not be suitable for a betta. These are just my thoughts, please feel free to add as I am not trying to insult anyone.

I already have food and dont use air pumps :) and dont worry I really appriceat all the info/oppinions I can get. I use those mini heaters in the winter but the room my betta (I have 1 and am getting another) is in stays above 75 all the time, the water heat stays 78-80 degrees during the day and only drops a degree or two at night (sometimes) my current fish seems to be thriving at it so i think thats alright. I was wondering about the size mainly. my betta is in a 2.5 or 3 gallon (not sure) i was thinking about getting a 5.5 and putting a divider in for 2 fish to go in but i have to keep it under 30 dollars and cant get anything offline lol. I was also considering this, but im not sure if the divider comes out? im sure it would....

I know this is two years old but since people can search for answers and pull these up I thought I'd chime in. I bought this unit cheap and just never hooked up the filter or pump. I too put a $15 Hyrdo heater in it and "Junior" loves it and is making bubble nests like crazy.

Amazon has them and Petco has them too. Be sure to get the correct size for your aquarium. They go from 1-5 gallon ones and then 5-10 or something like that.

Yes!! That's it! I have 4 of them and all keep the water temps from 74-78 degrees. (It's not that warm up here in Alaska...when it gets warm outside the temps go up in the aquariums to 78 and stabilize there). So if you live somewhere where it's warm outside and your house gets warm, these will still work good I think.

I have a 1 gallon aqueon minibow and my betta loves it! The only thing i dont like and am trying to block is the terrible current tthe filter makes.
