Info. on mistreatment of bettas?

I'm working on scholarships for college and there is one about writing an essay on the mistreatment of a species of animal. I would love to do this essay on bettas, anyone have a good link or personal story about mistreatment of bettas? Thanks

Try looking on ulitmatebettas.com.. there is an entire advocacy section that should be full of stories and anecdotes, besides that searching a bunch of different betta forums and advocacy sites should get you a lot of sources.. just remember you have to ask permission to reference someones' post if its on a forum.

You should do a survey/quiz to test street knowledge of betta care eg

-What is the smallest acceptable tank size?
-Bettas like small spaces because...
-How many females can be kept with a male?
-Do fish feel pain?
-How often does the average betta bowl need to be cleaned
-How long is a betta's memory?
-True or false: bigger tanks are easier to take care of.

I think comparing the results of the quiz to their true answers would be a good reality check on people's disregard of small pets. Perhaps you could even open it up to misinformation on fish in general (ie sale of Goldfish, Iridescent Sharks, Bala Sharks, Plecos)
