Bettas using Amazon Sword Plant as a Punching Bag.

The subject is the best summary I can use for describing the action they are taking against a leaf of their sword plant.

THere are two small brown spots on the largest leaf of the sword. Each female betta today has swam over to the leaf, and swatted her tail or side against the leaf several times, and then waltzed away.

Is this normal behaviour? Or are they trying to tell me to prune and remove the leaf?
