Whisper Submersible Heater

I bought a new heater the other day for my 2.5 Gallon tank, its a Tetra Whisper Submersible heater. It LOOKS nice, but it doesn't seem to keep the water at 78 degrees like it says it does, since I've put it in the water has decreased down to 76! The instructions claim a red light will turn on when it is heating and turn off when its at the optimum temperature. Could it be that my stick on thermometer is just off by 2 degrees? Or is the heater just bad? I'm guess that my thermometer is just off. I stuck my pinkie in and the water still feels really warm. I guess I'll have to watch the temp to see if the heater maintains it at the 76 the thermometer claims it to be, then I'll know which is bad.. Argh!

Conclusion.
The heater works fine.
The Thermometer is a little off since it sticks on the outside of the tank. I have a ceiling fan on low and old somewhat drafty windows and hes near them. SOOO the thermometer thinks the water is colder than it really is! Yay!

Really? I have that same heater, but my thermometer says it's always at 76. Disappointing.

You can tell the different between 2 degrees? Well I know that's certainly not hot and cold. To me, they'd be the same. And I have a thermometer that sticks straight inside, no vent.

I personally can't tell the difference between 2 degrees, but my thermometer can, and now its more like 75 than 76. I think I'll be returning this heater and putting back the old school glass heater until I can find a better one.

Haha wish I could do that. My heater is way past return time. I hate wasting money, so I can't just throw it out and get a new one. Even if I do get another heater, I HAVE to do something with this one! Lol
