Algae Problem in 5g

Well my 5g tank has had an explosion of algae out of the blue. The tank is no where near where it can get any sun light and I don't have any live plants in it. All I can think that has happened is that I missed a spot of algae when I cleaned it out months ago and since it's being used again it decided to pop back up. Is there anything that can permanently get rid of the algae? It seems like nothing I do will work short of taking everything out and giving the tank and gravel a good cleaning. Though that's what I did before and now it's back again. Any suggestions?

Just scrub it off and do a pwc. You could get a snail or some ghost shrimp.. they love algae.

Is it brown algae or green algae?

Honestly I think your best bet is to

a) Srcub
b) Keep the nitrates as low as possible.
c) Get a live plant (anything. Marimo balls, java fern, java moss) to soak up and scrap of nitrate that might be left.

You could be overfeeding. Algae thrives off of decomposed food. Get some live plants. Im trying to convert everyone here to get them haha! well worth it. My tank is literally crystal clear. No algea and on top of that I get to cut back on water changes A LOT haha
