Yup thats true. I've seen decorations with really small holes in them that bettas wouldn't even try to get in. I think the java moss method is better though. But I really don't care if they eat the ghost shrimp.. I can get more. ;)

You could get nerite snails.. but I've never seen them available at a LFS so you might have to get them online.
A few of my LFS sell nerite snails so that is ok :)

My tank is generally around 20oC without heaters; I have cold water tanks at home but this will be my first heated tank.

Could a bottom feeder fish be a possibility?

not really.. all bottom feeders need to be in groups of at least 3 so you would need at least a 10gallon tank.

20*c is way too cold..you'll need to get a heater and heat to at least 25-27*C

Don't snails also help with the bacteria in the tank?
If you get just one snail, what do you need in the tank for it? And what's the minimum size of tank for 1 snail?
I think it'd be interesting to have a pet for my betta lol

When I was cycling the tank was aound 20; now with a fish it's around 25 celsius.

It'll depend on what the snail is I guess; Apple snails can grow really big.

Snails aren't huuuuge waste producers (I think apple snails poop a lot though.) so usually they're okay in whatever? Don't take my word for it though...
