Talking All on coral

Last year I tried to house a mushroom coral in a 2.5 gallon tank it died after a week and a half. It was a fragment coral. That was actually a science project. I was very new to aquarium keeping and that was my first tank. Please share your reef experiences and give me tips to help with betta keeping on the thread titled Help?.

What salt did you use for the water for the coral?

I bought pre-mixed water. The sand turned pink :)

Use instant ocean reef salt next time and mix it and let it sit with an aerator for 24 hours, then wait 7 days before adding coral.

I had a small reef tank for a while. I had a lot of different corals, a tiny anemone, various invertebrates, and a yasha goby. After several months, most of my corals suddenly died for no discernible reason. I took the tank down a while after that and switched to planted betta tanks.

The coral was a singular mushroom frag. the water sat 24 hours in the filtered 2.5 gallon tank complete with live rock and sand. The filter was too strong though so it died because it wasn't attatcing to any live rock and was pushed around too much. A week and a half later when it died I got another one. I decided to give it to a school with a fresh water experienced teacher.(guppies endler's black skirt tetras tiger barbs neons) So I trusted them. The power went out that weekend (this is another week and a half later) and it died. It was also going to split soon.
