i have a betta fish who's been lookin ill for some time, first he caught the ick which i cured, then velvet which i cured, and now under his mouth he's turned grey, his belly does look slightly big, dull in colour, (usually bright red, light shining on him in places purple), he lurks at the bottom of the tank sulking wants to eat but spits it out. tried giving him a treat of frozen blood worms. his tank is big cleaned regular never has dirty water, as nobody likes to live in filth. i was given medication which is ment to be a combination to treat anything but not my fish by the looks of things. any ideas whats wrong with him? guessing he'll be dead very soon.

How big is his tank, and how frequently do you change the water?
Do you have a water testing kit that will tell you the ammonia, nitrate, and nitrite content of his water? Does he have a filter, or a heater?

Those things will be helpful to know when the fish experts come around (I'm not one of them, I just thought you'd want to know that someone was watching your thread. :) )

How bad is the grey?

he has a 100ltr tank with filter air pump heater set to 26c cleaned fortnightly 100% ph is normal. his tank is fine as the 2 alge suckers are very healthy.

as for the grey, its spreadin under his belly around face and mouth. he seems happy at the mo after having a stroke and play with a little ball. but in genral looking at him he looks as if he's wanting to act normal and not let anything get him down.

Sometimes (If my facts are straight) you'll come across a betta with grey when you get him/her. I had a betta whose whole head was grey but he lived for 3 happy years. (R.I.P. Bloo)
If he's acting happy he should be fine. If you notice anything weird, post it on the site. Someone will be happy to help.

thanks for that, hope he's fine as he looks just like ur pic, or use to but his colour is more dull now. still cant get him to eat not even blood worms it's been 3 days now he must be starving. as for bloated belly, might put him in his travel tank and see what my pet store (tropical fish specialist) say.
so fingers crossed he's just having a few grumpy days

How old is he? Any pine-coning? It doesn't sound like dropsy, but I need to cross that off my list of things it could be. If you end up taking him to your local pet store, just keep in mind that if it's a store like petco, I highly doubt they will be able to accurately diagnose him.

I wouldn't clean his tank 100% every 14 days. I would do a partial water change every week. If you have cycled the tank, then you should never do a 100% water change unless there is some disease going around.

he is having 100% water change due to the medication he is having for velvet. normally i would change him wkly 70%. in the space of 2 mths he's been treated from ick and velvet, this is second time he's caught velvet. think it was from some neon tetras i put in the tank as they died 1wk later.
his scales are fine so i know it's not dropsy. i noticed on his tail fins some bumps and when he swims sometimes it looks as if he's going to roll over.
couldnt tell you how old he is i've had him for 5mths and he was fully grown.
