semi-translucent peeling
Hi I am new to the forum and am quite worried about my Betta "Stress" (long story),

Not until recently have i noticed a strange semi-translucent white layer of substance coating the sides of my Betta and peeling off from his dorsal and pelvic fins. He is kept in a fairly large fish bowl (i know he needs a 5 gal tank with a heater minimum, i'm working on it), i do 100% water changes every week using aged tap water kept at the same temperature as the room treated with Betta water softener before replacing the water in the bowl. I suspect it is a fungal growth but am not quite sure - what do you think it is and what can i do to treat him?

that almost looks like those "webs" that can appear in a tank. I honestly don't know what it is though.

Same here, it doesn't seem like a fungus but more like his slime coat peeling off. Thank you for the reply though.

I'm having the exact same problem right now, and no one seems to have the answer.
Is your betta lively? Or does he act sick?
Mine acts 100% healthy, but I'm still so worried about him...

Those pictures look identical to what my fish is going through.
If it is excess slime coat, what can I do to end/prevent it from happening?

Ok all my info just comes from google to take it with a grain of salt...

could be from over feeding...
could be due to water perameters...

I wouldn't think extra slime is that bad...some humans are extra greasy yet still healthy :P

It can be a sign that you aren't keeping up with your water changes and that ammonia is building up in the water. Can you tell me more about the fish's tank and how often/how much do you change the water?
