2 out of 3 dead overnight

Hi,

Two out of three of my betta's apparently dropped dead overnight. I'm pretty upset since I thought it was going pretty well, since they were swimming around and generally seemed pretty happy.

Warning: Dead betta pictures ahead.

Housing
What size is your tank? 2.3L per section (Please, do not tell me about how they deserve and need more - I'm not here to get in to that discussion, I respect your beliefs if you respect mine.)

What temperature is your tank? - Middle is 26C, two outers are around 25C.

Does your tank have a filter? No

Does your tank have an air stone or other type of aeration? No

Is your tank heated? Yes

What tank mates does your betta fish live with? Two males (separated + usually covered)

Food
What type of food do you feed your betta fish? Hikari Betta Bio Gold pellets
How often do you feed your betta fish? Once a day - 3 pellets

Maintenance
How often do you perform a water change? Every 2 or 3 days a 50% change. The tank is new and has only been in my possession for a week and a bit.
What percentage of the water do you change when you perform a water change? 50%
What type of additives do you add to the water when you perform a water change? Prime Water Conditioner

Water Parameters:
Have you tested your water? If so, what are the following parameters? No, but I have only done a water change a day or two ago.

Ammonia: -
Nitrite: -
Nitrate: -
pH: -
Hardness: -
Alkalinity: -

Symptoms and Treatment
How has your betta fish's appearance changed? Dead & Pale
How has your betta fish's behavior changed? Not moving
When did you start noticing the symptoms? As I got home today
Have you started treating your fish? If so, how? Too late.
Does your fish have any history of being ill? None so far
How old is your fish (approximately)? Unsure

I'm not sure what could've caused this as my crown betta had been in my care for nearly a good 6 months or so. My other two were a week and a bit old, one has survived but the other has died. Something I've noticed is weird white lumps, some look like worms bundled together at the bottom of the tank - easily visible on top of the tarhitian moon sand I purchased.

I've attached some photos - if anyone has any thoughts as to how this could've happened please let me know. Thanks.

RIP Bmo and Burgundy. :(

Just in addition to that - in the middle tank where Burgundy, the red Betta was, the water is very murky and has a cloud-like layer of stuff over the water in addition to the white balls of gunk on the bottom. The heater is also coated in this fine white layer. Yes, I had done a 100% water change just on Monday and a 50% water change on Tuesday - I was planning to do another 50% just tomorrow before I got home and saw this.
