King Bettas?

I don't hear too much about King Bettas on here so I thought I'd ask.. Does anyone have any? Are they much different from regular bettas? Personalities? Colors? I always see them at Petco and they fascinate me! If I didn't have 6 tanks already occupied with fish..I'd totally get one. ;)

I think Vaygirl has one. From what I know kings are crosses between Giants and smaller bettas. Since they have Giant blood they are prone to more problems and will have shorter life expectancies than smaller bettas.

Why is it that some bettas are so tiny. Several bettas of the same type as mine were half the size at the store. I only got mine because he was the only one of his coloring at the time.

Probably because they sell them so / too young. I would buy it young if I had a choice, though. They'll live longer. But is it me, or are they starting to sell them really, really younger now?

And I went to petco the other day, and I saw the king bettas too. They were really big! But they were only darkish colored. Perhaps in time, they'll have more color.

I've wanted to get one but they can get twice the size of a regular betta (4 inches or more). So they need to be in a 5G or more.

Mr. Vampire had them too. He is pretty educated about them and their care.
