No -ite -ate readings? But algae?

Situation:

20 gallon tall, 3 guys, silk plants, gravel, whisper filter and 2 penn plax small world filters. WCs Every 3 days, 50%

Up and running for two months.


Problem:

No nitr -ite - ate readings.


Today's ammonia:

Hair below .25 . checked ites and ates the other day and did not get a reading on either.



Found algae???? today on the top of one of my tall plant's leaves. I think it is algae??

But how can I have algae without a cycled tank?? Or is the tank cycling but not registering anything since there are so few fish??

Help?

I believe plants can consume ammonia to an extent so I wouldn't think its impossibble for algae to do the same... thats hair algae-- perhaps a bit of research would shed some light?
