Internal parasites and other nasties.

Are you less likely to get a fish with internal parasites and other nasties if you deal with breeders like bettysplendens or aquabid verses LPS?

I would tend to say yes. I think most breeders take good care of their stock, although there may be some that don't. I think bettysplendens is pretty reliable.

Honestly I think it more depends on the type of fish. Dwarf puffers, for instance, are wild-caught and therefore a good 50% of the time come with internal parasites. The same is true for a lot of wild caught fish but dwarf puffers in particular.

Another really 'risky' fish is goldfish, since they are usually kept outside on farms in crowded ponds.

I have never seen a store betta with IP, not have I ever had a betta with IP that wasn't given to it by another fish. Keep in mind that they are often shipped and stored in cups of methylene blue that, while not specifically for IPs, will kill anything outside of the fish's body.

I've found no difference overall no matter where I have bought from,

Parasites are a norm for fish, Just like Dogs and Cats should be wormed regularly.
They can pick them up from almost anything, Within your tank, The food they eat and so on.

From my experience alot of folks have parasites in their fish and arn't aware of it.
I have even pointed the actual worms out to a few people just to have them get fummin mad in return.

None of my bettas have ever had IP either.
