Hello - New here

I bought my first Betta a few weeks ago. I never ever thought I'd love a fish so much!! Named him Oscar. He adjusted very well. Since he was my first fish, we thought we would spoil him with a ten gallon tank. Heated of course.
He seems to be very happy. There were tons of very pretty Bettas at Petco. But I picked him because he looked so sad in the tiny cup. Once he was added to the tank, his color perked up BIG time. I could not believe the change!

I've done a lot of reading on this board and have learned a lot!!! Thanks.

Here is his tank. I still have a couple more silk plants to add. Not perfect. I'm still new at this fish stuff.

Welcome to the forum! Your betta is very pretty. I love the setup of your tank; it could use a couple more silk plants but it sounds like you're on that. I'm glad you went for the bigger tank instead of the smaller ones. :)

You can totally fill the tank up to the top if you have a cover. Give him an extra gallon or two. :)

We added more water a few days ago.

My husband now wants a bigger tank. I thought this would be the best size to learn with.. Funny. I almost bought a really small one because the box said it was a Betta tank. After reading this board, I chose not to. We did add a couple ghost shrimp. Oscar did not like them and the shrimp didn't survive. I'm sure Oscar nipped them to death. No more shrimp ever.

We also have 2 ADF.. Oscar seems to leave them alone. But will chase them once in a awhile.

Shrimp are really sensitive little guys, so if the tank was just set up, that's probably why they died.

You could try them in a few more months once the tank is established. :)
