Went in to get Piper's bigger bowl today and of course happened by the bettas.
I was instantly INFURIATED. They had 12 on display shelves, about 40 on a trolley in the middle of the aisle (like some unwanted overstock) and none looked healthy.
One poor boy had mucky water A DEAD FLY IN HIS SEALED BOWL AND ONE AIR HOLE. Another`s water was literally just above his head as he was forced to the bottom of the bowl (top fin sticking out of the water) with the hole punched plastic from his lids airholes floating around with him, TWO with cotton fungus, 8 dead, 7 pretty much dead or struggling to swim, I would say about 30 had fit rot AND bites decimating their tails.
The little twenty-something employee came by as I was holding the first two I mentioned (fly and low water with plastic) and I asked her if she was looking after them. She was really sweet and I didnt have the heart to yell at her so I asked her to change the two worst STAT and when she saw how bad they were she apologized profusely and rushed them into the back room. She told me she would redo all the bowls. I asked for her manager.
I decided the manager was fair game for an earful so I told him that it is not the first time I have seen the bettas under sufferance but it was most definitely the worst time and that if its like that again EVER I will not hesitate to report him.
I was tempted to just wheel the whole overstock trolley out to the car with me.
