ive just cleaned my tank and found my fish laying on his side apparently gasping, ive given him a gentle flick with my finger and he moves then drops down again. he does not look well i assume he is on his way out!

had him about 8 months didnt really think i would care this much but its killing me!
what should i do?!?!?

Did you acclimate him back to the tank?

What is the size of the tank? Temp? Is it cycled? Did you make sure to put the dechlorinator in before you put him back in the tank? (sometimes I forget so I always ask this question).

We need to know all this to be able to help better.

The first thing you need to do is lower the water level so its easy enough for him to get air, raise the temperature slowly.

well he made it through the night, and may be looking a little better, off to work now just hope hell be about when im back

He may be cold, slowly raise the water temp to 76-78F and then in a few day get it up to 80F, also, in that size tank you need to increase your water changes to at least 50% twice a week
