My first betta!

They suckered me in! I am a betta newbie so I don't know exactly what to look for in a fish. I was just eyeballing them at petco yesterday and this little guy stared at me intently the entire time. I couldn't resist! I brought him home and named him Ichabod. Right now he lives in a 1 gallon bowl, but I would really like to get something larger for him with more hiding places. He certainly seems happier in the bowl than he was before in the little cup, though. He swims all over, flares, and interacts with me. Early this morning he was hiding behind his plant and I leaned my face over the bowl and said, "Hey Ichabod, come up here!". He swam right up to the top to greet me!

Anyway, I wanted to share!

It is hard to see, but I taped some tulle over the top of the bowl just in case he's a jumper.

I DO have a question though. The top part of his head is that mossy color. Is this usually a bad discoloration due to some sickness/stress, or just normal?

I love this little guy and can't wait to add more to it. I'm hooked.

Aw, thanks guys for your input! I just gave him the first water change and inserted a heater. I didn’t realize how cold the water would be until I felt it last night and it made me feel pretty bad.
