Would this be ok temporarily?

So, i posted this in the catfish section as well, but from a different "angle"

So what has happened is this:
my friend bought a 10 gallon tank and didn't research fish at all before she bought them. She ended up with a ghost fish, 2 catfish (i think they are cory's) and something else i think died.
Her landlord found out and said she couldn't have a tank, so she put them in a uncycled 2 gallon bowl with a airpump. I REALLY am desperate to get these fish out of this situation, but we can't seem to find a place to take them, other than 100 miles away.

so i have 2 5-gallon tanks with a betta each. They have been running for about a year (each has a very good filter)
I am contemplating adopting the two Cats till i can find a better place for them.

If i watch carefully, would this be ok? would it negativly effect my bettas? both my bettas LOVED having shrimp with them (they died tho, the shrimp :( ) and aren't overly agressive

corys like to be in groups of like 3. I think they would be depressed if they were separated.

To be honest I've never had a problem with just one cory. But then again my bettas and corys are like this *crosses fingers*.
