Homemade decor?

I just got my betta, Purple Haze, and he loves his tank quite a bit. I've got him in a 2 gallon tank with a heater, Java Fern, and a few other accessories. But what he REALLY needs is a place to hide and rest. I've been back and forth from pet store to pet store and can't find a suitable cavern for him. Does anyone have any good ideas on homemade hideouts that bettas love? I know some of you have to have done this before. Any suggestions? What is safe, what isn't safe?

I've heard : coconuts! But don't ask me how to make it, I've never done it before. But it REALLY seems interesting. The coconuts act as caves.

you could try a very small Terra cotta pot laying on its side, with the top pointed to the back of the tank and the bottom hole towards the front
