Panty hose on my filter?

Someone suggested to me that I wrap panty hose around the intake part of my filter to slow the flow, since it seems to be pushing my fish aside when he swims by. So, I was going to do that, until I realized that I didn't know how to attach it to the filter! What can I use to keep the pantyhose on the filter that won't be bad for the tank? I mean, a rubber band is out, and I don't want to use glue or something chemically that might hurt Andrew. Any suggestions for me? I don't want to keep stressing my fish out with the stupid filter pushing him around the tank!!

Hmm....try using thread to tie it? if not go for a rubber band

I just tied the pantyhose itself into a knot at the top and it stayed on just fine.
