I Need Help....

I don't know if he is sick or what. He used to have a very long beautiful tail, but I noticed that it was looking kinda raggedy and torn up. I didn't think anything of it because he seemed happy and was eating and hiding and swimming. But I noticed the other day that he barley has a tail left! I don't know what to do. The poor guy can barley swim that is how much of his tail is missing. I think I am going to go and buy salt tomorrow either way, but IDK if that is what I should do, or if it is my fault his tail is gone :[

I don't know if you can tell how tiny his tail is. I can never get a good picture of him. My plan as of now is to clean his tank tomorrow and put in some salt and hope for the best.

By the way it is a 2 gallon tank with a heater, no filter. I clean his tank once a week, that is I change a little more than 50% of the water. I use Prime and I feed him Top Fin, 3 pellets twice a day.

The water in a 2 gallon tank should be changed 100% twice a week.

Is that the problem? I should just change the water more. I used to change the water every three days, but he doesn't like it. lol. He just stares at me the whole time looking grumpy so I started to change it only once a week...I guess I should go back if that is the problem.

Yeah, they don't like water changes much. lol I think more frequent water changes will help but if they don't then you can always use meds.

If he's tail biting (which could be caused from stress or boredom) his tail will heal on its own... assuming he stops doing it. Salt will definitely help this, too.

If it's a fungal or bacterial rot, you might need to provide medication to treat it, though the salt may take care of the issue. Are the edges of his tail darker?
