Typical fry numbers?

When you breed a betta approximately how many fry do they have at a time? and how long can you keep them together until they I guess start fighting?

Thank you :)

I've had spawns up to 2 hundred or more and at the end I get maybe 20-30. I keep my fry until they get aggresive so about 7-8 weeks depending on your fry.

Wow that is a lot.

How big a tank would you need to house that many fry?

I 'am' semi interested in breeding them - I don't have facilities yet but I want to do lots of research first.

Andakin - your fish in avatar picture looks so unimpressed lol.

I would recommend at least a 20 gallon. The smaller the tank, the harder it is to keep clean. The babies need room to grow.

You have to remember, it's also survival of the fittest. So, not all those fry will survive. :)

I am using a 20gal, so it will also be my grow out tank. But, it doesn't look like I have nearly as many fry in the picture Andakin posted haha

Thank you everyone for your help. If anyone has any more information then please feel free to tell me :). It'll be a serious consideration for future :)

Doggyhog your quote about low maintenance fish; my boyfriend was helping me clean out my goldfish tank and he was saying fish were low maintenance - he got his own tank (well my old tank) and some fish and fish are now "high maintenance" pets lol.
