Filter algae is EVERYwhere @_@

So in my 10 gallon community I was thinking of putting a female betta in there, so I was cleaning it all up, including the filter... so I took out the cartridge and out pours gucky green algae stuff ;_;" It was stuck all over my cartridge so I rinsed it in a bucket of tank water and threw that water away.

I have globs of this green stuff in my tank right now. What should I do with it? Right now, my ghost shrimp and fish are having a feast... should I fish out these green lumps? They're really gross... I never changed my filter cartridge because that tank is cycled, but I kinda forgot to rinse it every now and then... heh heh..

Algae is a natural part of your little ecosystem and can be good and benefit the aquarium in small, controlled amounts, however, if it is cyanobacteria or BGA it can be toxic...really important to ID your algae, can you post a pic or google BGA.
