Which to add first

If I add a female betta to the tank and let her get used to her surroundings, in a few weeks could I add a male betta? I ask this because from what I have read the males are aggressive and dont take kindly to other bettas in their territory, so if its the females territory and hes merely the newbie would they get along?

Male bettas and female bettas can't live together.
